Once again it is time to write the introduction to the Best Albums of the Year poll as conducted by the usual group of music lovers who still find it necessary to buy prerecorded music. I would like to start off by saying a few nice things about some of the best selling artists of the year: Taylor Swift, Beyonce, Black Eyed Peas and Lady Ga Ga. I'd like to, but I can't. Instead I'll say something nice about this year's winner of American Idol, Susan Boyle, but apparently she wasn't on American Idol and finished second in whatever talent show she was a contestant on. At least I can say something positive about Mariah Carey, R. Kelly and 50 Cent. Their newest releases seem to be tanking. So what does that leave? Well, at least we've got Bob Dylan and Bruce Springsteen still releasing relevant music. And who would have thought the day would come when I could say Green Day has released another fine album? (At least without snickering). But when it's all been said and done, there is still only one band that seems to tower above the rest. And that's the one that released not one but two mammoth box sets. You know you know their name.
