My Morning Jacket - It Still Moves This sounds like what would happen if the Beach Boys in the 70ís had kicked Mike Love out of the band and asked Neil Young to take his place. Or does it sound more like the Buffalo Springfield with Brian Wilson producing and his brother Carl replacing Richie Furray? 2. Fountains of Wayne - Welcome Interstate Managers This album has more hooks in it than Curt Gowdyís tackle box. Long live power pop! 3. Amy Rigby - Til The Wheels Fall Off The album that asks the musical question, "Are we ever gonna have sex again?" Yes, the best songwriters are the ones who can relate to their audience. 4. The Jayhawks - Rainy Day Music One morning the Jayhawks woke up and decided they wanted to be the Byrds for the new millennium. That was the same morning I woke up and decided I could make French toast. Some ideas are better than others. 5. Lucinda Williams - World Without Tears I cried because I lived in a town without pity, but then I met a woman who lived in a world without tears. 6. The White Stripes - Elephant "Sheís my ex-wife!" [Slap!] "Sheís my sister!" [Slap!] "My ex-wife!!" [Slap!] "My sister!!" [Slap!!] Ah, forget about it, Jake.These kids have found a snappy new way to play the blues and besides, itís Chinatown. 7. Emmylou Harris - Stumble Into Grace Iím sorry, I have no answer for this one because I didnít think it would be on the exam. Do I get half credit for saying I think Emmylou is still very pretty and her music is way better than anything released by all those half-naked women who pop up on MTV all the time? 8. Joe Strummer & The Mescaleros - Streetcore 2003 was good year for farewell albums but a bad year when you consider all the talented people we lost. Good-bye, Joe, thanks for the music. 9. The Fiery Furnaces - Gallowsbirdís Bark Another brother and sister act, only this time they really are brother and sister. Or are they? Sorta like the White Stripes, only they have a folky music hall edge to their sound and theyíre not slaves to a black, red and white color scheme. 10. The Minus 5 - Down With Wilco This sounds like what would happen if Wilco teamed up with Peter Buck and the singer from the YoungFresh Fellows and they decided to make an album that sounded like the Beatles and the Beach Boys mixed together . 11.
